Real estate tax focus

Property transactions require more than the closing statement.

The purchase price, improvements, depreciation, selling expenses, prior use, and ownership history can all affect the tax treatment. Bring the complete record so your return reflects the facts of the transaction.

01Closing and settlement statements
02Purchase and improvement records
03Prior depreciation schedules
04Rental income and expense summaries

Common questions

A few answers before we talk.

What should I bring to my appointment?+

Bring identification, Social Security information for everyone listed on the return, income documents, your prior return, and records supporting deductions or credits. Do not send sensitive documents through ordinary text or email.

I sold a home or rental property. What records are important?+

Bring the purchase and sale closing statements, improvement records, selling expenses, prior tax returns, and depreciation schedules when applicable.

What records are needed for Schedule C?+

Bring income records and organized expense totals by category, plus mileage, home-office, equipment, insurance, and estimated-tax information when applicable.

Does an extension give me more time to pay?+

Generally, an extension gives additional time to file—not additional time to pay tax that may be due. Your exact situation should be reviewed before the deadline.
